Our Gut, our Second Brain and Dictates our Health! North American Diet & Gut Disaster! Microbiome pathways to brain significant, and for long term health respecting Dementia and Alzheimer’s. BUT how to ensure good gut makeover with our deplorable North American Diet… simplistically we MUST replace bad bacteria with good in our microbiome! There are TRILLIONS of bacteria there….but they must be the right ones! The microbial cells OUTNUMBER our human cells by an order of 10 to 1. Poor microbial ecosystems affect everything, from allergies, inflammation, metabolic diseases such as obesity, insulin and leptin resistance, diabetes 2, even mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. North American diet, rich in carbohydrates, sugars, non-organic meats, fish, and processed foods…you name it, undermines microbial diversity.

A recent study, published in ‘Cell Host & Microbe’, out of the Center for Genome Science and Systems Biology, at the Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis…confirms that the type of food we ingest can dramatically influence the microbial community in our microbiome. I interpret this to mean that if we cut out sugars, fructose, particularly High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS, avoid Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs, avoid the toxin and antibiotic laden food of Confined Animal Feeding Operations or CAFOs, chemicals…all subject of other Blogs of this WEB…then our microbiota have a fighting chance to flourish in the RIGHT way! Seems the strains of good bacteria in the gut hand in hand with a heavily plant-based diet. Nicholas W Griffin of Washington University and the lead author of the study commented: “….choices as adults dramatically influenced their gut community”. So a significant influence is WHAT we put into our mouth!

Have always maintained that of Diet and Exercise…Diet is Prime…you cannot exercise your way out of a bad diet…although the benefits of exercise are nevertheless profound! Diet & Gut Disaster!

In a phrase…the best way to fast track a healthy microbiome is to eat more net fiber…check our other articles! Try for 50 to 75 grams minimum a day…way beyond those official guides! BUT cut back on those sugars, they just knock out that good microbiota, and the disastrous pathogenic bacteria flourish and their place. Diet & Gut Disaster!
